Reminders

School day 9.00am - 3.30pm

Children come to school in their P.E kits every Tuesday and Friday.

Reading books are changed every Monday and Thursday.

Bring a school book bag everyday and check this when you are at home.

Please read with your child everyday and sign their diary.

Children should only bring plain water to school.

Please could you send a spare set of named uniform and underwear for your child to keep in school.

Learning in Reception is based on  enquiry questions  for each half term, the children also take an active role in this process and this is displayed in the classroom.

Who can help us in the community?

Welcome back to school! We will be learning about different professions in the community such as police, doctors, dentists, postal workers and vets. The children will have the opportunity to learn about the different roles through researching information, role-play and talking about their first hand experiences. We will also be learning about Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day and Shrove Tuesday. Please see the curriculum overview and resources below to support your child's learning at home.

There will be activities uploaded on Purple Mash for your child to complete on a weekly basis. Please remember to share photos or email us about your child's achievements at home penguinsandparrots@gmail.com

Reading at home tips

  • Find a time that is good for your family routine each day to read the book.
  • Encourage your child to talk about the pictures, characters and setting. There is a list of questions you can ask in the diary.
  • Ask your child to make predictions about what will happen in the book.
  • If your child comes across a word that is unfamiliar, talk about the meaning.
  • Remember to sign the diary everytime you read at home, so they can get a sticker for their reward chart.
  • Please watch the videos below to help your child apply their phonic knowledge to read the words.

This website contains a free e-book library, search for level 1+ or 2 books, we also use these in school. There is an option for your children to listen to the story as well as read it. I would recommend using one phonics book a week and read real books everyday. The children benefit from exploring a combination of fiction and non-fiction texts.
